Why me?

It’s still incredibly murky. I really don’t know, to this day, May 10, 2021.

No one has “revealed” themselves fully, nor has a reason been disclosed to me, not a scrap of why dropped, though I have my ideas.

Once Upon a Time

Cyber alarms clang for me in February 2019, while I am working on an advocacy project with some close friends.

Our Zoom meetings would flash constantly, crash constantly… we all reported strange goings-on with our debit cards being constantly declined or frozen at our banks, requiring massive headaches to fix…at one point, a week didn’t pass without my card…

It was thought Apple devices were safe from the hackers, for the most part.

How quaint.

One could purchase an iPhone, Mac computer, iPad, and feel reasonably assured their information on the device was safe, as long common sense and ordinary behaviors prevailed.

It was indeed the selling point, the justification, for the inflated price tag!

Not so, it turns out.

In the summer of 2016, a story broke regarding malware never seen before by software engineers. It was not pushed very hard and it died within the month. …

The setting and subject was surreal. A high school auditorium at 6:00PM, in the rural countryside of Pennsylvania.

About one hundred people were in attendence.

I sat in front. Four people sat at a table on stage. One of whom was the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, John Fetterman.

Two microphones set up on either end of the sloping aisles, carpeted in low pile red shag.

Citizens were asked to come to the microphones to say their piece.

The Lt. Governor said, “I am not here to tell you my opinion on the matter, I am here to listen to yours,”…

Opinion

While picturesque in areas where I currently live (Middle Of Nowhere) is getting on my last, barely functional nerve.

I really am sick to death of living here, I surprise myself by admitting internally.

The lack of sunny days.

The wet of summer — not humidity, the rainy days, which are equal in amount to sunny, or more than.

The Amish.

Living here in rural PA is boring.

It is stifling my personality and “me”ness.

It takes entirely too long to go anywhere approaching “fun”.
I thought I knew this coming into living here because, well, I grew up here…

I grew up in rural Pennsylvania, and this is a pocket in PA where a largish amount of The Amish live.

Not to be confused with their pseudocousins, The Mennonites (who wear modest English clothes with head coverings), The Amish wear (usually) all black or navy blue head to toe (ladies) and black/ navy blue trousers with suspenders and white or blue shirts (men). They drive horses with buggies, or wagons, to go everywhere.

All wear bonnets, hats, veils, or head garb of some kind, dependent upon their “station in life”, though it appears babies of The Amish wear the…

Holiday 2021 is right around the corner…it is almost ONLY FIVE MONTHS before Christmas.

FOUR UNTIL THANKSGIVING!

You’re welcome.

Since the entire family only gets together on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day for obligatory feasts, animosity, long ago rivalries, and buried, -but never forgotten- resentments seem to flare, the glory unfolding onscreen.

One of life’s unexplainable mysteries.

Auntie fires the annual opening shot, triggering the madness, oblivious to all.

Which she commences in the full flush of summer’s heat.

As always, Auntie Teresa (age 81), who lives with her sister Auntie Sue (age 83), is the one to initiate the first planning session.

Imagine two birdesque ladies with white, permed hair…

It seems in 2021, American society, as a whole, is far gentler in telling people bad news, or informing others of things they likely don’t really want to know or hear.

We have kinder words, less abrasive language, muted tones of voice in giving another person upsetting news. Hell, there are even a plethora of classes offered online or in your local “wellness” centers on how to communicate in a, well, a less assholish way.

In addition, we have a myriad of blogs, websites, classes again, and life coaches (yes, professions), that are dedicated to helping people be more prepared…

Thank you so much for responding and further expounding on this.

That is an issue I have not considered, and it is heartbreaking to realize how profoundly that issue, housing insecurity, would absolutely impact all areas of a kid’s life… They are not in any way able to do anything about it. How do they not resent the hell out of it, become bitter, once they are aware? I am not even speaking of a kid being resentful to their parents, but a larger resentment, one that encompasses societal issues where they live, the people etc…

I constantly learn to…

Lately, I have been completely preoccupied with thoughts of my father.

It isn’t unusual for me to think of him, fleetingly, once a day, usually struck by something one of the kids do, or a movie we are watching, think of Dad, smile and go on.

However, of late, I have been immersed in almost a second grieving period, it seems to me, where he is in my thoughts constantly, and the ache of missing him is acutely present. Not the blunted twinge it has dulled into over these past almost two decades I have grown used to feeling.

It’s amazing what the public decides, when they are given the opportunity by their legislators and are lobbied hardcore by one side of an issue.

On November 3, 2020, Oregon residents voted on an initiated state statute; Oregon Measure 110, Drug Decriminalization and Addiction Treatment Initiative.

This initiative, linked in its entirety above, proposed to reduce possession of ALL illegal drugs (Schedule I-V) from a criminal misdemeanor violation, which could carry a maximum penalty of one year in prison and $6,250 fine; to a Class E penalty with $100 maximum fine with health assessment and/or possible treatment facility ordered.
