That is an issue I have not considered, and it is heartbreaking to realize how profoundly that issue, housing insecurity, would absolutely impact all areas of a kid’s life… They are not in any way able to do anything about it. How do they not resent the hell out of it, become bitter, once they are aware? I am not even speaking of a kid being resentful to their parents, but a larger resentment, one that encompasses societal issues where they live, the people etc…

I constantly learn to think and look at issues in so many new facets and ways when authors take the time to comment back thoughtfully. I appreciate that you did so.

Edit to add: Also, I think this also illustrates the difference between a more rural area (like where I currently live and speak to these particular librarians) and where you are in a much more populated/urban area, where kids aren’t as lax and indifferent about seeking out opportunities.

The librarians here truly lament the fall off of the 20 yrs old down to 13 years old crowd, as most of those kids have stopped borrowing books, and only come into the library to surf the Net, even with an extensive inter library loan system available to them.
